Fashion Friday

I had a chance to go out last night. Outside of my house. And not to the grocery store... or Target. Can you believe it? I actually went out to grab some great Thai food and a nice cold beer at the local Irish tavern. As I was perusing my closet (which looks like a tornado struck since I have added my summer wardrobe but not yet removed the winter sweatshirt/sweaters/footie pj's, etc.) I was a little overwhelmed. I needed to find something cute because, first off, spring has arrived which always puts me in the mood for a fun skirt and some sandals. And, second, I was going out with C., who always look stunning even when she is just coming to visit for a playdate with our brood of babies.

That's when it hit me that I need to do the annual fashion overhaul to get things in order for warmer days. Time to make a trip to Goodwill (for drop off and a little purchasing), time to put the sewing machine to work to update a few items, time to figure out ways to put things together in a new way so that I feel excited about my choices rather than sick and tired of them.

One of my biggest, and newest, inspirations is a blog called New Dress A Day. This woman is crazy crafty. She takes a thrift shop find every day and sews, dyes, repurposes and rejuvenates it into something fantastic. I wish I had a tenth of her talent. Although, not on her scale, I can take vision from her and look at my thrift store buys in a whole new way. Really, check out at least a few of her creations.

I love to shop at my local Goodwill, but there is also a great ShopGoodwill website if you don't have one near you. As of right now, they have 4000 items in the women's category. Of course you need to weed through a lot of crap, but you can find some great items (even with tags still on) for 4 or 5 dollars.

And, of course, I love Etsy for great vintage finds or to update with cute new accessories. Remember the great upcycled dress my hubby bought me last year from Etsy? I am actually altering it today so I can possibly wear it this weekend.

I found a great link for 50 Green Fashion and Design Blogs- it has a lot of ideas if you have a few minutes hours to waste.

That's it. I am officially going to tackle my closet and get a cohesive spring/summer wardrobe put together. Spring does start tomorrow, after all.

  1. good luck with the closet tackling. I'm hoping to get to mine this weekend, but I think I'm being unrealistic! That dress makeover is crazy cool!

  2. I can't wait to see what you do with that dress! It's so much fun to alter things.

And yesterday when I was in the city? I got two new (vintage) dresses. I'll have to show you sometime soon. A 60s mod dress and a 50s dress with a wide boatneck and flowy skirt. Too cool.

Oh, and we should def make it a regular occurrence to get out!
